    To rename the Stewart B. McKinney <<NOTE: Oct. 30, 2000 -  [H.R. 
    5417]>> Homeless Assistance Act as the ``McKinney-Vento Homeless 
                            Assistance Act''.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. DESIGNATION.

    Section 1 of the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act (42 
U.S.C. 11301 note; Public Law 100-77) is amended by striking subsection 
(a) and inserting the following new subsection:
    ``(a) Short Title.--This Act may be cited as the `McKinney-Vento 
Homeless Assistance Act'.''.

SEC. 2. <<NOTE: 42 USC 11301 note.>> REFERENCES.

    Any reference in any law, regulation, document, paper, or other 
record of the United States to the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless 
Assistance Act shall be deemed to be a reference to the ``McKinney-Vento 
Homeless Assistance Act''.
