Erwägungen:
Der Beschwerdeführer erhob gegen den Entscheid des Verwaltungsgerichts des Kantons Zürich vom 25. März 2010, der ihm die bedingte Entlassung aus der Verwahrung verweigerte, Beschwerde in Strafsachen. Am 4. August 2010 ist der Beschwerdeführer im Inselspital in Bern verstorben, wodurch seine Beschwerde gegenstandslos geworden ist.
Demnach verfügt der Instruktionsrichter:

Die Beschwerde wird als gegenstandslos geworden abgeschrieben.
2.
Es werden keine Gerichtskosten erhoben.
3.
Diese Verfügung wird dem Amt für Justizvollzug des Kantons Zürich und dem Verwaltungsgericht des Kantons Zürich, 3. Abteilung, Einzelrichterin, schriftlich mitgeteilt.
