Erwägungen:

Am 15. April 2011 erhob X.________ gegen das Urteil des Verwaltungsgerichts des Kantons Luzern, Verwaltungsrechtliche Abteilung, vom 11. März 2011 Beschwerde und beantragte im Wesentlichen dessen Aufhebung. Am 13. September 2011 zog der Beschwerdeführer seine Beschwerde vorbehaltlos zurück.

Gestützt auf Art. 32 Abs. 1 und 2 BGG kann das Verfahren mit Verfügung des Abteilungspräsidenten abgeschrieben werden. Der Beschwerdeführer trägt die Kosten (Art. 66 Abs. 1, 2 und 3 BGG). Parteientschädigungen sind keine geschuldet (Art. 68 Abs. 1 und 2 BGG).
Demnach verfügt der Präsident:

Das Verfahren wird infolge Rückzugs der Beschwerde abgeschrieben.
2.
Die Gerichtskosten von Fr. 300.-- werden dem Beschwerdeführer auferlegt.
3.
Diese Verfügung wird den Verfahrensbeteiligten, dem Verwaltungsgericht des Kantons Luzern, Verwaltungsrechtliche Abteilung, und dem Bundesamt für Migration schriftlich mitgeteilt.
