X.________ reichte am 11. August 2004 beim Bundesgericht staatsrechtliche Beschwerde gegen einen Entscheid des Obergerichts des Kantons Luzern vom 22. Juli 2004 ein.
Mit Schreiben vom 24. August 2004 zog er die Beschwerde zurück. Das bundesgerichtliche Verfahren ist deshalb als erledigt abzuschreiben. Es rechtfertigt sich, keine Kosten zu erheben.
Demnach wird verfügt:

Das bundesgerichtliche Verfahren wird als durch Rückzug der Beschwerde erledigt abgeschrieben.
2.
Es werden keine Kosten erhoben.
3.
Diese Verfügung wird dem Beschwerdeführer, der Staatsanwaltschaft und dem Obergericht des Kantons Luzern, II. Kammer, schriftlich mitgeteilt.
