Commentaries: Art. 1116

A cheque payable in the country in which it was issued must be presented for payment within eight days.
A cheque payable in a country other than the country in which it was issued must be presented within 20 days where the place of issue and place of payment are in the same continent and within 70 days where they are on different continents.
For this purpose, a cheque issued in a European country and payable in a country on the Mediterranean Sea, or vice versa, counts as a cheque issued and payable in the same continent.
The time limits stipulated above commence on the date indicated on the cheque as the issue date.
