The competent authority may save and store the biometric data required for the issue of the foreign national identity cards.
The task of recording biometric data and forwarding identity card data to the issuing body may be delegated wholly or in part to third parties.¹
The competent authority may process biometric data already recorded in ZEMIS in order to issue or renew a travel document.²
The biometric data required for the issue of an identity card shall be updated every five years. The Federal Council may specify a shorter period for the updating of data if this is required due to changes in the facial features of the person concerned.³
