The appellant challenged a Bern cantonal judgment concerning health insurance premium claims. The Federal Supreme Court had already warned that the appeal appeared formally deficient and ordered an advance cost payment of CHF 700, then granted an extended deadline. The appellant still did not pay. The court therefore did not enter into the appeal in simplified proceedings and waived court costs.
Art. 62 Abs. 3 BGG; Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. a BGG; non-payment of advance costs as ground for non-entry in simplified procedure. If the appellant fails to pay the requested cost advance within the original deadline and the additional grace period, the Federal Supreme Court may decline to enter into the appeal in simplified proceedings. The defect concerns a procedural precondition for review and does not require a substantive examination of the merits. Where non-entry is ordered for this reason, court costs may be waived under Art. 66 Abs. 1 second sentence BGG.

in das unbeantwortet gebliebene Schreiben des Bundesgerichts vom 24. April 2009 an H.________, wonach die Beschwerde die gesetzlichen Formerfordernisse hinsichtlich Antrag und Begründung nicht zu erfüllen scheine und eine Verbesserung nur innert der Beschwerdefrist möglich sei,
in die Verfügung vom 24. April 2009, mit welcher H.________ zur Bezahlung eines Kostenvorschusses von Fr. 700.- innert einer Frist bis 11. Mai 2009 aufgefordert wurde,
in die Verfügung vom 19. Mai 2009, mit welcher H.________ zur Bezahlung eines Kostenvorschusses innert einer Nachfrist bis zum 1. Juni 2009 verpflichtet wurde, ansonsten auf das Rechtsmittel nicht eingetreten werde,
in Erwägung,
dass der Beschwerdeführer den Vorschuss auch innerhalb der Nachfrist nicht geleistet hat,
dass deshalb gestützt auf Art. 62 Abs. 3 BGG im vereinfachten Verfahren nach Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. a BGG auf die Beschwerde nicht einzutreten ist und in Anwendung von Art. 66 Abs. 1 zweiter Satz BGG auf die Erhebung von Gerichtskosten verzichtet wird,
erkennt der Präsident:

Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.
2.
Es werden keine Gerichtskosten erhoben.
3.
Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien, dem Verwaltungsgericht des Kantons Bern, Sozialversicherungsrechtliche Abteilung, und dem Bundesamt für Gesundheit schriftlich mitgeteilt.
