The appellant challenged a decision in a protective custody matter, but filed the Federal Supreme Court appeal by fax. The Court held that such a filing form is not permitted and that the appellant, despite being warned and invited to cure the defect within the deadline, failed to submit a valid appeal. Appeals to the Federal Supreme Court must be lodged only by hand delivery, Swiss Post, or electronic submission with recognized electronic signature. A faxed submission is ineffective and inadmissible. If the appellant is notified of the defect and does not cure it within the appeal period by filing a valid appeal, the Court shall not enter into the matter under Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. a BGG in simplified procedure; the president is competent. Costs may be waived in such non-entry decisions.

in die Beschwerde gemäss Art. 72 ff. BGG gegen das Urteil vom 25. August 2010 des Obergerichts des Kantons Bern,
in Erwägung,
dass Beschwerden an das Bundesgericht nur in den gesetzlich vorgeschriebenen Formen, d.h. durch Übergabe an das Bundesgericht oder an die Schweizerische Post (Art. 48 Abs. 1 BGG) oder aber durch elektronische Eingabe mit elektronisch anerkannter Signatur (Art. 42 Abs. 4 BGG) erhoben werden können,
dass deshalb die vom Beschwerdeführer per Telefax eingereichte Beschwerdeeingabe unzulässig ist (Mitteilung des Schweizerischen Bundesgerichts, in: ZBJV 143/2007 S. 67 f. Ziff. IV),
dass zwar der Beschwerdeführer mit Brief vom 6. September 2010 auf die Unzulässigkeit von Fax-Eingaben und auf die Möglichkeit der Nachreichung einer zulässigen Beschwerde nach Art. 72 ff. BGG innerhalb der Beschwerdefrist aufmerksam gemacht worden ist,
dass er jedoch trotzdem keine zulässige Beschwerde nachgereicht hat,
dass somit auf die offensichtlich unzulässige Beschwerde in Anwendung von Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. a BGG nicht einzutreten ist,
dass keine Gerichtskosten erhoben werden,
dass in den Fällen des Art. 108 Abs. 1 BGG das vereinfachte Verfahren zum Zuge kommt und die Abteilungspräsidentin zuständig ist,
erkennt die Präsidentin:

Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.
2.
Es werden keine Gerichtskosten erhoben.
3.
Dieses Urteil wird dem Beschwerdeführer, dem Regierungsstatthalteramt Bern-Mittelland und dem Obergericht des Kantons Bern schriftlich mitgeteilt.
