The appellant withdrew his public-law appeal against a cantonal judgment upholding a 12-month driver’s license withdrawal. The Federal Tribunal took note of the withdrawal and removed the case from the docket. Although a withdrawing party is normally treated as unsuccessful for costs purposes, the Court waived judicial costs in view of the reasons given in the withdrawal letter.

Vu:
l'arrêt de la Cour de droit administratif et public du Tribunal cantonal du canton de Vaud du 24 août 2011 qui rejette le recours formé par A.________ contre la décision sur réclamation rendue le 21 juin 2011 par le Service cantonal des automobiles et de la navigation confirmant le retrait de son permis de conduire prononcé le 27 avril 2011 pour une durée de douze mois,
le recours en matière de droit public formé le 23 septembre 2011 par A.________ contre cet arrêt,
la lettre du 2 novembre 2011 par laquelle l'intéressé déclare retirer son recours;
considérant:
qu'il sied de prendre acte du retrait du recours et de rayer la cause du rôle (art. 73 PCF par renvoi de l'art. 71 LTF; art. 32 al. 2 LTF),
que celui qui retire un recours doit, en principe, être considéré comme une partie succombante, astreinte au paiement des frais de justice encourus jusque-là (art. 66 al. 1 et 2 LTF; ordonnance 9C_112/2009 du 6 juillet 2010),
que pour les raisons évoquées par le recourant dans sa déclaration de retrait du recours, la présente ordonnance sera rendue sans frais (art. 66 al. 1, 2ème phrase, LTF);
par ces motifs, le Président ordonne:

La cause est rayée du rôle par suite de retrait du recours.
2.
Il n'est pas perçu de frais judiciaires.
3.
La présente ordonnance est communiquée au mandataire du recourant, ainsi qu'au Service des automobiles et de la navigation et à la Cour de droit administratif et public du Tribunal cantonal du canton de Vaud.
