The appellant withdrew his complaint against the Winterthur detention judge’s order on release from custody. The Federal Supreme Court therefore struck the proceedings off the docket. Despite the withdrawal, it still ruled on the pending request for free legal aid. Because the complaint was not manifestly hopeless, legal aid was granted, no costs were imposed, and attorney Yassin Abu-Ied was appointed as official counsel with a fee of CHF 1,500 paid from the court’s funds.
Art. 32 Abs. 2 BGG; withdrawal of the appeal leads to striking the case off the docket. A pending request for legal aid under Art. 64 Abs. 1 and 2 BGG must nevertheless be decided after withdrawal of the remedy. Legal aid is granted if the appeal was not manifestly without prospects of success; in that event no court costs are charged and appointed counsel is to be compensated from the federal court treasury.

In Erwägung,
dass X.________ seine Beschwerde vom 24. Juli 2008 gegen die Verfügung des Haftrichters des Bezirkes Winterthur vom 25. Juni 2008 mit Schreiben vom 27. August 2008 zurückgezogen hat;
dass die Beschwerde deshalb im Verfahren nach Art. 32 Abs. 2 BGG abzuschreiben ist;
dass der Beschwerdeführer die unentgeltliche Rechtspflege und Verbeiständung beantragt hatte und über dieses Gesuch trotz des Rückzugs der Beschwerde zu entscheiden ist;
dass die Beschwerde nicht von vornherein aussichtslos erschien, und deshalb die Voraussetzungen gemäss Art. 64 Abs. 1 und 2 BGG vorliegen;
dass dem Beschwerdeführer daher die unentgeltliche Rechtspflege zu gewähren ist;
verfügt der Präsident:

Das Verfahren wird infolge Rückzugs der Beschwerde abgeschrieben.

Dem Beschwerdeführer wird die unentgeltliche Rechtspflege gewährt.
2.1 Es werden keine Kosten erhoben.
2.2 Rechtsanwalt Yassin Abu-Ied wird als amtlicher Vertreter des Beschwerdeführers bestellt, und es wird ihm für das bundesgerichtliche Verfahren aus der Bundesgerichtskasse ein Honorar von Fr. 1'500.-- ausgerichtet.
3.
Diese Verfügung wird dem Beschwerdeführer, der Staatsanwaltschaft Winterthur/Unterland und dem Haftrichter des Bezirkes Winterthur schriftlich mitgeteilt.
