105 CMR 315.00 Cremation of bodies received from outside Massachusetts

315.001 Purpose

315.001: Purpose The purpose of 105 CMR 315.000 is to regulate the cremation of dead bodies received from outside Massachusetts.

315.100 Burial Permit/Transit Permit

315.100: Burial Permit/Transit Permit A dead body received for cremation from outside Massachusetts shall be accompanied by the usual burial permit required by law before burial, and if transported by a common carrier, by the usual transit permit.

315.200 Medical Examiner's Certificate

315.200: Medical Examiner's Certificate No dead body received from outside Massachusetts shall be cremated by any corporation authorized to cremate the bodies of the dead until its officers have received a certificate from a medical examiner or forensic investigator of this Commonwealth, or from a medical examiner or similarly authorized person in whose jurisdiction said death occurred, that he or she has viewed the body and is of the opinion that no further examination or judicial inquiry concerning the same is necessary.
