20011024 ΓÇó Approval of embassy construction in Riyadh
20011024Giurisprudenza amministrativa delle autorità federali (VPB)16 dic 1982Granted
The National Council approved, without opposition, the federal decree authorizing construction of a new Swiss chancery, residence for the head of mission and staff housing in Riyadh. The project was justified by the relocation of Saudi ministries and diplomatic missions to Riyadh and the need for adequate premises for the Swiss representation. Estimated costs were about CHF 14.6 million, with a possible later supplementary credit not excluded.
Approval of a federal building project for a diplomatic mission; where the host state's administrative relocation renders existing premises unsuitable, Parliament may authorize acquisition and construction of new chancery and residential facilities for the representation. Cost estimates and the possibility of later supplementary credits do not preclude approval when the need for suitable accommodation is established.
