At the opening of the winter session of 28 November 1983, the Federal Assembly recorded the election of the presiding officers of its two chambers. André Gautier was elected president and Arnold Koller vice-president of the National Council. Edouard Debétaz was elected president and Markus Kündig vice-president of the Council of States.
