Der Einzelrichter zieht in Erwägung:

Im angefochtenen Entscheid wurde auf eine Berufung des Beschwerdeführers nicht eingetreten, weil sie verspätet war. Der Beschwerdeführer macht vor Bundesgericht geltend, die Zustellung des einzelrichterlichen Entscheids sei "haarsträubend" gewesen und er habe im Berufungsverfahren keine Fristen verpasst. Die Vorinstanz hat sich zu diesen Fragen geäussert. Zu ihren Erwägungen nimmt der Beschwerdeführer mit keinem Wort Stellung. Die Beschwerde genügt folglich den Begründungsanforderungen von Art. 42 Abs. 2 bzw. Art. 106 Abs. 2 BGG nicht. Darauf ist im Verfahren nach Art. 108 BGG nicht einzutreten.

Die Gerichtskosten sind dem Beschwerdeführer aufzuerlegen (Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG). Das Gesuch um unentgeltliche Rechtspflege ist in Anwendung von Art. 64 BGG abzuweisen, weil die Rechtsbegehren aussichtslos erschienen. Der finanziellen Lage des Beschwerdeführers ist durch eine herabgesetzte Gerichtsgebühr Rechnung zu tragen (Art. 65 Abs. 2 BGG).
Demnach erkennt der Einzelrichter:

Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.
2.
Das Gesuch um unentgeltliche Rechtspflege wird abgewiesen.
3.
Die Gerichtskosten von Fr. 500.-- werden dem Beschwerdeführer auferlegt.
4.
Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien und dem Obergericht des Kantons Zürich, I. Strafkammer, schriftlich mitgeteilt.
