Counsel for the appellant withdrew the criminal appeal because no valid power of attorney could be produced. The Federal Supreme Court noted the withdrawal, held that the appellant’s later unsigned petition arrived after the appeal deadline and could not serve as a substitute filing, and struck the case off the roll. A later unsigned filing by the appellant cannot cure the withdrawal or replace the original pleading if it was submitted after expiry of the appeal time limit. In such a procedural situation, the matter is discontinued without judicial costs.

que, par courrier daté du 9 décembre 2011, Philippe Nicod a déclaré retirer - faute d'avoir pu produire une procuration valable - le recours en matière pénale qu'il avait interjeté au nom de X.________ contre un arrêt rendu le 16 juin 2011 par la Chambre pénale de la Cour de justice de la République et canton de Genève dans la cause ACJP/126/2011,
que le délai de recours contre l'arrêt cantonal précité ayant échu le 22 août 2011, la « Pétition » - non signée - de X.________ parvenue au Tribunal fédéral le 25 août 2011 l'a été tardivement et ne saurait constituer une écriture de substitution à celle déposée par Philippe Nicod,
qu'il sied d'en prendre acte et de rayer la cause du rôle (art. 32 al. 2 LTF), sans frais;
Par ces motifs, le Juge unique prononce:

La cause est rayée du rôle.
2.
Il n'est pas prélevé de frais judiciaires.
3.
La présente ordonnance est communiquée aux parties et à la Cour de justice du canton de Genève, Chambre pénale.
