The appellant challenged the Glarus High Court’s decision in a criminal defamation matter. The Federal Supreme Court first ordered an advance on costs of CHF 2,000 and then set an extension period with a warning of non-entry. The appellant failed to pay even after the deadline was extended and the notice was deemed served. The court therefore did not enter into the appeal under Art. 108 BGG and ordered the appellant to pay court costs of CHF 800. No compensation was awarded to the respondents because they incurred no expenses before the Federal Supreme Court.
Art. 108 BGG; non-payment of the advance costs leads to non-entry into the appeal if the appellant fails to comply even after the statutory grace period and warning of non-entry. Proper service of the reminder is sufficient; if the advance is still unpaid at expiry of the additional deadline, the appeal is dismissed from the roll without examination of the merits. Court costs are borne by the unsuccessful appellant under Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG; no party compensation is due absent compensable expenses of the respondent.

Der Einzelrichter zieht in Erwägung:

Der Beschwerdeführer wurde mit Verfügung vom 21. März 2011 aufgefordert, dem Bundesgericht spätestens am 11. April 2011 einen Kostenvorschuss von Fr. 2'000.-- einzuzahlen. Obwohl er die Verfügung in Empfang genommen hatte, reagierte er nicht. Darauf wurde ihm mit Verfügung vom 19. April 2011 die gesetzlich vorgeschriebene Nachfrist bis 19. Mai 2011 angesetzt, um den Vorschuss zu bezahlen, ansonsten auf das Rechtsmittel nicht eingetreten werde. Nachdem er diese Verfügung auf der Post nicht abgeholt hatte, wurde sie ihm noch mit A-Post zugesandt. Sie gilt als zugestellt. Da der Kostenvorschuss auch innert der Nachfrist nicht einging, ist androhungsgemäss auf die Beschwerde im Verfahren nach Art. 108 BGG nicht einzutreten.

Die Gerichtskosten sind dem Beschwerdeführer aufzuerlegen (Art. 66 Abs. 1 BGG). Den Beschwerdegegnern ist keine Entschädigung auszurichten, weil sie vor Bundesgericht keine Umtriebe hatten.
Demnach erkennt der Einzelrichter:

Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.
2.
Die Gerichtskosten von Fr. 800.-- werden dem Beschwerdeführer auferlegt.
3.
Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien und dem Obergericht des Kantons Glarus schriftlich mitgeteilt.

No. Because the advance costs were not paid within the extended deadline, the appeal could not be considered.
The appellant was duly ordered to pay an advance and later granted a statutory grace period with a warning of non-entry. As payment still did not arrive, the court had to refuse to enter into the appeal under Art. 108 BGG.
Allocation of court costs
The appellant must bear the court costs.
As the appeal was not entered into, the costs were charged to the unsuccessful appellant under Art. 66(1) BGG.
