The Federal Supreme Court took note of the appellant’s withdrawal of his civil appeal against a Geneva civil chamber judgment and struck the case from the docket. The court had previously rejected the appellant’s request for legal aid and had ordered an advance on costs. After the withdrawal, the court set reduced judicial costs at CHF 500, payable by the appellant, and denied party compensation to the respondent.
Art. 32 al. 2 LTF; withdrawal of the appeal; striking off the role. When an appeal is withdrawn, the Federal Supreme Court takes note of the withdrawal and removes the cause from the docket. Costs are borne by the withdrawing appellant, with the possibility of reduction under Art. 66 al. 2 and 3 LTF. No party compensation is awarded to the respondent absent special circumstances.

l'arrêt rendu le 18 février 2011 par la Chambre civile de la Cour de justice du canton de Genève dans la cause précitée;
le recours en matière civile interjeté contre cet arrêt par X.________;
la requête d'assistance judiciaire présentée par le recourant;
l'ordonnance du 19 mai 2011 par laquelle la Ire Cour de droit civil a rejeté cette requête;
l'ordonnance du 24 mai 2011 invitant le recourant à verser une avance de frais de 12'000 fr. dans un délai échéant le 9 juin 2011, prolongé au 14 juillet 2011 à la demande de ce dernier;
la lettre du conseil du recourant, du 14 juillet 2011, informant du retrait du recours précité;
Considérant:
qu'il y a lieu de prendre acte du retrait du recours et de rayer la cause du rôle (art. 32 al. 2 LTF);
que le recourant supportera les frais judiciaires réduits (art. 66 al. 2 et 3 LTF).
Par ces motifs, le Juge instructeur ordonne:

La cause est rayée du rôle par suite du retrait du recours.
2.
Les frais judiciaires, arrêtés à 500 fr., sont mis à la charge du recourant.
3.
Il n'est pas alloué de dépens à l´intimé.
4.
La présente ordonnance est communiquée aux mandataires des parties et à la Cour de justice du canton de Genève, Chambre civile.

Whether the withdrawn appeal should be struck from the docket
The court took note of the withdrawal and struck the case from the docket.
Once the appellant withdrew the appeal, there was no reason to continue the proceedings; the case had to be removed from the roll under Art. 32(2) LTF.
Allocation of federal court costs after withdrawal
Reduced judicial costs of CHF 500 were imposed on the appellant, and no costs were awarded to the respondent.
Under Art. 66(2) and (3) LTF, the withdrawing appellant bears the judicial costs, which were set at a reduced amount.
