The appellant challenged a cantonal decision concerning preventive withdrawal of his driving licence. Before the Federal Supreme Court could decide the merits, he withdrew his appeal by letter of 7 July 2008. The Court therefore struck the case from the docket. It also ordered the appellant to pay court costs of CHF 300 pursuant to Art. 66 BGG.

dass der Beschwerdeführer mit Schreiben vom 7. Juli 2008 seine Beschwerde vom 5. Mai 2008 zurückgezogen hat;
dass das Beschwerdeverfahren somit als durch Beschwerderückzug erledigt abzuschreiben ist;
dass der Beschwerdeführer die Gerichtskosten zu tragen hat (Art. 66 BGG);
verfügt das präsidierende Mitglied:

Das Verfahren 1C_213/2008 wird infolge Rückzugs der Beschwerde abgeschrieben.
2.
Die Gerichtskosten von Fr. 300.-- werden dem Beschwerdeführer auferlegt.

Diese Verfügung wird dem Beschwerdeführer, dem Strassenverkehrsamt und dem Verwaltungsgericht des Kantons Zug, Verwaltungsrechtliche Kammer, schriftlich mitgeteilt.

Whether the federal appeal should be discontinued after withdrawal
The proceedings were discontinued and struck off the roll because the appeal had been withdrawn.
Once the appellant withdrew the appeal, there was no longer any pending contestation, so the case had to be removed from the docket.
Allocation of court costs after withdrawal of the appeal
Court costs of CHF 300 were imposed on the appellant.
Under Art. 66 BGG, the withdrawing appellant bears the costs of the proceedings.
