Résumé

The university appeal body held that the family events invoked by an Algerian student constituted an exceptional situation within the meaning of RU.22 para. 2. Because those events personally affected him and seriously disrupted the calm pursuit of his university studies, relief from the deadline was justified.

RU.22 al. 2; exceptional circumstance and procedural time limit in university matters: family events may qualify as an exceptional situation when they affect the student personally and seriously disturb the orderly pursuit of university studies. The assessment is discretionary but must be exercised in light of the concrete impact of the events on the applicant; where such impact is established, relief from the deadline is granted.
