in die Beschwerde vom 28. Juli 2009 (Poststempel) gegen den Entscheid des Verwaltungsgerichts des Kantons St. Gallen vom 19. Juni 2009 (betreffend Kündigung des Dienstverhältnisses),
in die Verfügung vom 1. Dezember 2009, mit welcher M.________ zur Bezahlung eines Kostenvorschusses innert einer Nachfrist bis zum 4. Januar 2010 verpflichtet wurde, ansonsten auf das Rechtsmittel nicht eingetreten werde,
in Erwägung,
dass der Beschwerdeführer den Vorschuss auch innerhalb der Nachfrist nicht geleistet hat,
dass deshalb gestützt auf Art. 62 Abs. 3 BGG im vereinfachten Verfahren nach Art. 108 Abs. 1 lit. a BGG auf die Beschwerde nicht einzutreten ist und der Beschwerdeführer nach Art. 66 Abs. 1 und 3 BGG kostenpflichtig wird,
erkennt der Präsident:

Auf die Beschwerde wird nicht eingetreten.
2.
Die Gerichtskosten von Fr. 300.- werden dem Beschwerdeführer auferlegt.
3.
Dieses Urteil wird den Parteien und dem Verwaltungsgericht des Kantons St. Gallen schriftlich mitgeteilt.

Whether the appeal could be entered into after the advance on costs was not paid within the grace period.
No. Because the advance on costs was not paid even within the extended deadline, the appeal had to be dismissed by non-entry in simplified proceedings.
Under Art. 62(3) BGG, failure to pay the required advance of costs after warning permits non-entry; the court therefore did not examine the merits.
Allocation of court costs
The appellant was ordered to bear court costs of CHF 300.
As the unsuccessful party in the non-entry decision, the appellant had to bear the costs pursuant to Art. 66(1) and (3) BGG.
