TRANSPORTATION (74 PA.C.S.) - AMEND LOCAL TRANSPORTATION ORGANIZATION

                                  AN ACT

     Amending Title 74 (Transportation) of the Pennsylvania
        Consolidated Statutes, further defining "local transportation
        organization."

        The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     hereby enacts as follows:

        Section 1.  The definition of "local transportation
     organization" in section 1301 of Title 74 of the Pennsylvania
     Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
      § 1301.  Definitions.
        The following words and phrases when used in this chapter
     shall have the meanings given to them in this section unless the
     context clearly indicates otherwise:

        "Local transportation organization."  Any political
     subdivision or any mass transportation, port, redevelopment or
     airport authority now or hereafter organized under the Laws of
     Pennsylvania or pursuant to an interstate compact or otherwise
     empowered to render, contract for the rendering or assist in the
     rendering of transportation service in a limited area in the
     Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, even though it may also render or
     assist in rendering transportation service in adjacent states,
     or any nonprofit association of public transportation providers
     within this Commonwealth.

        Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2001, or
     immediately, whichever is later.
