On 2 November 1984, the Swiss Federal Council decided on the official result of the 23 September 1984 popular vote on the anti-nuclear initiative and the energy initiative. It rejected an appeal lodged by the Canton of Basel-Landschaft and then formally declared both initiatives rejected by the people and the cantons. The decree also ordered publication of the decision and the vote recap in the Federal Gazette.
Art. 15, 81 Federal Act on Political Rights; certification of popular vote results and treatment of appeals against vote returns; the Federal Council may, after examination of the official protocols, reject a cantonal appeal and declare the result of a popular vote bindingly established. Where the returns show rejection by both people and cantons, the initiatives are to be recorded as rejected; the declaration is accompanied by publication in the Federal Gazette (cf. art. 2).

Le Conseil fédéral suisse,
vu les articles 15 et 81 de la loi fédérale du 17 décembre 19761) sur les droits politiques;
vu les procès-verbaux de la votation populaire du 23 septembre 1984; après avoir rejeté un recours émanant du canton de Bâle-Campagne, arrête:
Article premier
L'initiative populaire a été rejetée par le peuple, par 762 792 oui contre 931 245 non, ainsi que par les cantons, par 52/2 oui contre 154/2 non (annexe 1).
Art. 2
Le présent arrêté ainsi que la récapitulation des résultats de la votation seront publiés dans la Feuille fédérale.
