The Federal Criminal Court’s Criminal Chamber announces that its Montecristo judgment on cigarette smuggling will not be published online in anonymized form because anonymization would render the 400-page decision unreadable given the many names contained in it. Instead, the full judgment is to remain available at the court registry for consultation until 31 March 2013, subject to telephone prior notice, and accredited journalists may obtain a paper copy on request.
Internet publication of judgments by the Federal Criminal Court is generally limited to anonymized versions; where anonymization would make a lengthy decision with numerous named persons unreadable and therefore unusable, the court may dispense with anonymization and refrain from online publication, while ensuring access through consultation at the court registry and paper delivery to accredited journalists.

Urteile des Bundesstrafgerichts dürfen im Netz grundsätzlich nur in anonymisierter Form publiziert werden.
Das begründete Urteil in Sachen Zigarettenschmuggel (Verfahren "Montecristo") umfasst über 400 Seiten und nennt mehrere Hundert Namen. Eine anonymisierte Fassung des Urteils wäre unlesbar und unverständlich.
Das Bundesstrafgericht verzichtet deshalb auf die Anonymisierung und damit zwangsläufig auch auf die Publikation im Internet. Stattdessen wird das vollständi- ge Urteil in der Gerichtskanzlei bis zum
zur Einsichtnahme durch Interessierte aufgelegt. Für eine Einsichtnahme wird um telefonische Voranmeldung ersucht.
Den akkreditierten Journalisten wird das vollständige Urteil auf ihr Ersuchen hin in Papierform zugestellt.
