les ordonnances présidentielles du 6 février 2012 invitant les intimés à se déterminer sur la requête d'effet suspensif jusqu'au 21 février 2012 et à déposer une réponse éventuelle au recours jusqu'au 8 mars 2012;
la lettre du 16 février 2012 par laquelle le recourant déclare retirer le recours;
considérant:
qu'il y a lieu de prendre acte de ce retrait et de rayer la cause du rôle (art. 32 al. 2 LTF);
que le recourant supporte les frais judiciaires réduits (art. 66 al. 2 LTF);
par ces motifs, la Présidente ordonne:

Les ordonnances présidentielles du 6 février 2012 sont annulées.
2.
La cause est rayée du rôle par suite de retrait du recours.
3.
Les frais judiciaires, arrêtés à 300 fr., sont mis à la charge du recourant.
4.
Il n'est pas alloué de dépens aux intimés.
5.
La présente ordonnance est communiquée aux parties et à la Chambre des recours du Tribunal cantonal du canton de Vaud.

Whether the withdrawn appeal should be struck from the docket
The withdrawal was taken note of and the case was struck from the docket.
Once the appellant declared withdrawal, the court had to record the withdrawal and remove the case from the docket under Art. 32(2) BGG.
Allocation of court costs after withdrawal of the appeal
Reduced court costs were imposed on the appellant.
Because the appellant withdrew the appeal, he bears the judicial costs, which were reduced.
