les ordonnances présidentielles du 5 mai 2010 invitant les intimées à déposer des réponses éventuelles au recours jusqu'au 7 juin 2010;
la lettre du 20 mai 2010 par laquelle le mandataire du recourant déclare retirer le recours;
considérant:
qu'il y a lieu de prendre acte du retrait du recours et de rayer la cause du rôle (art. 32 al. 2 LTF);
que le recourant supporte les frais judiciaires réduits (art. 66 al. 2 et 3 LTF);
par ces motifs, la Présidente ordonne:

La cause est rayée du rôle par suite de retrait du recours.
2.
Les ordonnances présidentielles du 5 mai 2010 invitant les intimées à déposer des réponses éventuelles au recours jusqu'au 7 juin 2010 sont annulées.
3.
Les frais judiciaires, arrêtés à 300 fr., sont mis à la charge du recourant.
4.
Il n'est pas alloué de dépens aux intimées.
5.
La présente ordonnance est communiquée aux parties et à la Cour d'appel de la juridiction des prud'hommes du canton de Genève.

The withdrawal was recorded and the case was struck from the roll.
Once the appellant's counsel declared the appeal withdrawn, the court took note of the withdrawal under Art. 32(2) LTF and removed the case from the list.
Allocation of court costs and party compensation after withdrawal of the appeal.
Reduced court costs were charged to the appellant, and no party compensation was awarded to the respondents.
Because the appellant withdrew the appeal, he had to bear the reduced judicial fees under Art. 66(2) and (3) LTF; no costs were awarded to the respondents.
